Detroit to be hub for university's charter schools

DETROIT — Grand Valley State University says it will base its charter schools operation in Detroit.

The Detroit Free Press reports (http://on.freep.com/xjkr2r ) today the university`s Board of Trustees approved the $3 million purchase of a three-story downtown building. Grand Valley plans to use it for its Charter School Office and training classrooms.

Grand Valley State currently rents office space for training.

The Allendale-based university says 24 of the 44 schools it charters are in the Detroit area.
